About Us

The Historical Society of Decatur County, Greensburg, is located half-way between Cincinnati and Indianapolis at

222 N. Franklin St. in Greensburg, Indiana.  The Society’s office and museum are housed in a 19th century residence across from the Post Office. 

​

The Society and its museum are funded by corporate sponsors, memberships, endowments, grants, and visitor donations.  The Historical Society of Decatur County is governed by a board of ten members.  The museum is managed by an executive director and functions with the assistance of volunteers interested in maintaining Decatur County’s history.

All Year:  

Tuesday and Thursday 11am - 4pm

March through December:

 Tuesday and Thursday 11am - 4pm

First Saturday of the month1pm - 4pm

No Saturday hours in January and February

We offer: 
  • Guided tours of the 19th century museum home  
    • During regular hours or by appointments​
    • With our impressive collections of Native American artifacts and 18th – 20th century memorabilia, visitors are sure to have a wonderful experience learning more about the history of Decatur County.   
  • Access to our large source of archives
    • Documents, photos, genelogical records, and family history collections relating to Decatur County
    • Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers are happy to assist you in doing general research or checking the genealogical records housed in our facility.
  • Historical outreach presentations
    • For groups of children or adults - school groups, clubs, and social organizations​
  • Many exciting yearly events

  • A quarterly newsletter, called the Bulletin, to inform members.
